How the ad blocker and the browser work

It finds the stream

The browser watches what a page loads and lists the real video files: HLS (.m3u8), MP4, MKV and WebM. For adaptive streams it offers each quality, best first.

It blocks what is around it

Ad networks, pop-ups and trackers are blocked while you browse. Videos protected with DRM cannot be cast by any third-party app, so use the service's own app for those.

Web Video Cast Not Working? Causes and Fixes

When Web Video Caster or any other casting app cannot find the TV, or finds it but the video will not play, the cause is usually the network, the TV or the website, not the app itself. Check these in order:

  1. Same Wi-Fi. The phone and the TV must be on the same network. A guest network, a router setting that isolates devices from each other, or a VPN on the phone hides the TV.
  2. Local Network permission (iPhone). iOS asks before an app may look for devices on your network. If the request was declined, no TV appears. Turn it on in Settings › the app › Local Network.
  3. TV awake and up to date. A TV in deep standby does not answer casting requests. Switch it on, select its casting input if it has one, and update the TV and any receiver app the caster uses.
  4. DRM. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and similar services protect their video with DRM. No third-party casting app can send it. Use the service's own app or its Cast button.
  5. The website refuses the TV. Many sites serve a video only to the browser that opened the page, checking the Referer header or a cookie. The phone plays it, but the TV, asking on its own, is refused: the video starts and stops, or never loads.
  6. Older TVs. Some older smart TVs cannot open modern HTTPS addresses or certain formats, so a video that plays on a Chromecast can fail on an older Samsung or LG set.
  7. Phone locked. When the video is relayed through the phone, as with local files and protected sites, locking the phone or leaving the app can stop the stream.

Vantix Cast, our caster for iPhone and iPad, is built around these causes. Its "Can't find your TV?" sheet walks through the Wi-Fi, Local Network and TV checks. Streams that need the page's Referer and User-Agent are relayed through the iPhone with those headers, DLNA TVs get plain HTTP from the iPhone instead of HTTPS, and the iPhone screen stays awake while the TV reads from it. If no TV is found, any TV with a web browser can play through vantix.tv/receiver. DRM-protected video still cannot be cast.

We have not tested Web Video Caster. These are general casting causes, not a statement about that app. Web Video Caster is a trademark of its owner.

Questions

What is a good Web Video Caster alternative for iPhone?

Vantix Cast is a web video caster for iPhone and iPad. Its browser finds the HLS, MP4, MKV and WebM videos on a page, blocks ad networks, pop-ups and trackers around them, and sends the one you pick to Chromecast, Google TV, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Roku, AirPlay or any web browser. It has 15 days free with every feature, then a one-time Lifetime or a subscription.

Does Vantix Cast block ads?

Yes, in its browser: it blocks ad networks and pop-ups while you browse, so the video is what you get. The app itself shows no ads, ever. It cannot cast videos protected with DRM, such as Netflix or Disney+, and no third-party app can.

Why is Web Video Cast not working?

Usually because of the network, the TV or the website rather than the app. The phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi, with no guest network, device isolation or VPN in between, and on iPhone the app needs the Local Network permission (Settings › the app › Local Network). If the TV is found but the video fails, the site may serve the video only to the page that opened it (it checks the Referer or a cookie), the video may be DRM-protected like Netflix or Disney+, which no third-party app can cast, or an older TV may not open HTTPS addresses. Restarting the phone, TV and router, and updating the app and the TV, clears temporary faults. See Web Video Cast not working.

Does Vantix Cast track me?

The app contains no analytics or advertising SDK. At launch it sends one check-in with an anonymous device ID, the device model, the iOS version and the app version, for the trial and licence. Browsing and what you cast are not sent to Vantix.

Can Vantix Cast send my iPhone photos to a TV, including HEIC?

Yes. Photos and videos from your camera roll go to the TV in full quality, up to 4K, straight from your iPhone over Wi-Fi. iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPEG first, because Chromecast, Google TV and DLNA TVs cannot show HEIC.

Which TVs does Vantix Cast work with?

Chromecast and Google TV, DLNA smart TVs such as most Samsung and LG sets, Roku, Apple TV and AirPlay 2 TVs, and any TV, console, computer or car with a web browser through the Vantix Cast Web Receiver at vantix.tv/receiver.
